File Anti-Virus technology has been improved: now you can lower the load on your processor and disk subsystems and increase the speed of file scans. This is accomplished using the iChecker™ and iSwift™ technologies. By operating this way, the program rules out repeat scans of files. The scan process now runs in the background while you work. A scan can take up a fair amount of time and system resources, but the user can perform his work simultaneously. If any operation requires system resources, the virus scan will be paused until that operation is completed. The scan then resumes from the point where it left off. Individual tasks are provided for scanning Critical Areas of the computer and startup objects that could cause serious problems if infected and for detecting rootkits used to hide malware on your system. You can configure these tasks to run automatically every time the system is started. Protection of mail on the user's computer from malicious programs and spam has been significantly improved. The program scans e-mail sent on these protocols for viruses and spam: IMAP, SMTP, POP3, regardless of which mail client you use; NNTP (virus scan only), regardless of the mail client; Regardless of the protocol (including MAPI and HTTP), using plug-ins for Microsoft Office Outlook and The Bat! Special plug-ins are available for widely used mail clients such as Microsoft Office Outlook, Microsoft Outlook Express (Windows Mail), and TheBat! that can configure mail protection directly in the mail client both from viruses and from spam. Anti-Spam is trained as you work with the mail in your inbox, taking into account all the details of how you deal with mail and providing maximum flexibility in configuring spam detection. Training is built around the iBayes algorithm. In addition, you can create black and white lists of addressees and key phrases that would mark an e-mail as spam. Anti-Spam uses a phishing database. It can filter e-mails out that are designed to obtain confidential information of a financial nature. The program filters inbound and outbound traffic, traces and blocks threats from common network attacks, and lets you be on the Internet in Stealth Mode. When working on a network, you can also define on your own what network to trust 100% and which to monitor with absolute strictness. The user notification function has been expanded for certain events that arise during program operation. You can select the method of notification yourselves for each of these event types: e-mails, sound notifications, pop-up messages. Scanning has been added for data transmitted across secure SSL connections. The program has added self-defense features: protection against unauthorized remote use of the program’s tools, and password-protected program settings. These features help keep malicious programs, hackers, and unauthorized users from disabling protection. A feature has been added that can create a rescue disk. Using the rescue disk, you can reboot the operating system after a virus attack and scan the computer for malicious files. A new Kaspersky Internet Security component, Parental Control, enables users to monitor computer access to the Internet. This function allows or blocks user access to certain internet resources. In addition, this component provides a capability to limit time online. A News Agent has been added. It is a module designed for real-time delivery of news content from Kaspersky Lab. New Program Interface Features The new Kaspersky Internet Security interface makes the functions of the program simple and easy to use. You can also change the appearance of the program by using your own graphics and color schemes. When using the program, it regularly provides you with helpful information: Kaspersky Internet Security displays informative messages on the level of protection, accompanies its operation with comments and tips, and includes a through help section. A security wizard built into the application provides a complete snapshot of a host's protection status and allows to proceed directly to issue resolution. New Program Update Features This version of the program debuts our improved update procedure: Kaspersky Internet Security automatically checks the update source for updates. If it finds new updates, Anti-Virus downloads them and installs them on the computer. Only updates that you do not yet have are downloaded from the update site. This lowers the download traffic for updates by up to ten times. Updates are downloaded from the most efficient source. Now you can choose not to use a proxy server, if the program updates are downloaded from a local source. This noticeably reduces the traffic passing through the proxy server. A rollback capability has been implemented to recover to a previous application database version in the event of file corruption or copy errors. A new feature has been added that allows updates to be copied to a local folder so that other computers on the network can access them, thereby reducing Internet traffic. There are two types of network operation: Operations on the application level (high-level). At this level, Kaspersky Anti-Hacker analyses activity of network applications, including web browsers, mail programs, file transferring programs and others. Operations on the packet level (low-level). At this level, Kaspersky Anti-Hacker analyses data packet sent/received by your netcard or modem. If any network activity not meeting conditions of the rule is detected on your machine, the program will notify you and allow you to block the unwanted action (if Medium level is enabled). In order to define the simplest rule for an application, you can simply select its type from the drop-down list. To define a more complicated rule, you can specify the remote services and addresses allowed for this application. Packet filtering rules allow or block network packets sent or received by your machine. These rules review the packet header (the protocol used, the port numbers, the IP addresses etc.), and take decisions on the basis of this data. These rules are applied to all network applications running on your machine. For example, if you create a rule to block a certain IP address, all network communications to this address will be prohibited. Security Levels The program allows you to select one of the following security levels: Allow all - disables the security system on your machine. When this level of security is selected, any network activity is allowed on your machine. Low - allows network activity of all applications except those explicitly prohibited by user defined application rules. Medium - notifies you about network events related to your applications and allows you to configure your security system for optimal performance. If a network application on your computer tries to connect to the local network or the Internet, the training mode will be activated. The application and the network operation details will be displayed on your screen. On the basis of this data the program will prompt you to select one of the following courses of action: to allow or to block this event once, to completely block activity of this application, to allow the application activity according to its type, or to define additional network communication settings. Depending on your answer, the program will create a rule for this application that will subsequently be applied by the program automatically. High - prohibits network activity for all applications except for those explicitly allowed by user defined application rules.
